We've released new Wikimedia Enterprise API endpoints in beta to serve you bulk Wikidata payloads via Snapshots and hourly batches.

When we first launched Wikidata endpoints on Wikimedia Enterprise, Enterprise started providing access via our On-demand and Realtime APIs. For building search indexes, offline knowledge graphs, or training machine learning models, you can now query our new Beta Wikidata Snapshots endpoints for a simpler, structured way to ingest the entire graph at once. Get all of Wikidata as one full snapshot, or download it chunk by chunk using our Beta Wikidata Snapshot Chunks endpoints. On top of that, the new Beta Wikidata Hourly Batch endpoints offer a way to stay up to date without constantly keeping an API event stream listener open, via hourly delta batches.

These endpoints are released in beta, meaning they aren't covered under SLA. They are subject to change while we continue monitoring and quality testing in anticipation of a full release.

Clean Main Graph Snapshots Without the Bloat

Raw Wikidata dumps are over a terabyte in size. To solve this, the Wikidata Snapshot endpoint filters the Wikidata items down to the Main Graph:

  • Main Graph Items (~76M entities): Core concepts, places, people, and things.
  • All Properties (~16K entities): The attributes and relationships defining the graph.

By filtering out scholarly articles (~45M items), Lexemes, and schemas, we've compressed the dataset down to a highly manageable ~105 GB compressed JSON payload without sacrificing the core knowledge graph structure.

100% Data Coverage: No More 404 Fallbacks

In our first Wikidata beta release, On-demand endpoints ingested entities as edits occurred. For developers building comprehensive knowledge pipelines, this meant certain lower-traffic or historic entities occasionally required workarounds.

As highlighted in our developer spotlight on how CivicLens uses Wikidata APIs, creator Ryland Hale had to write custom translation logic and fallback layers when looking up niche political committee entities that hadn't yet been backfilled.

That limitation is officially history. All of Wikidata is now 100% available across all Wikimedia Enterprise APIs.

Whether querying On-demand or fetching full Snapshot files, every Main Graph QID and every single PID in the entire Wikidata knowledge base is readily available.
